I have recently become more than a little obsessed with embellishing handmade clothing with handmade appliques. It’s such a fun way to personalize an item of clothing; it gives it character and style, and of course it’s fun to think up different applique designs.
Here’s an owl I made from felt, cut with the oval die on my Fuse.
The top is sewn using the After-School shirt pattern by Oliver+S in knit. I sewed it with a knit lining because I absolutely adore the weight of double knit. It’s so much more cosy and warm than a single layer, but isn’t too bulky. I was delighted to find this gorgeous slub jersey in a variety of muted colors at my local discount fabric store – of course I bought up plenty for future use!
For the owl applique, I used a similar method to a tutorial I wrote a while back for creating owl themed party decor. The tutorial appeared in a FREE ebook – you can download it here. Did I mention it is free!?!?
