Yikes ok I took my mom to see the retirement village today and woaaahhh we walked into the craft room I said get me in here....unbelievable...crocheting/knitting...painting...ceramics....sewing...i was like oh oh oh i wanna be here lol...told my mom she needs to take and find some new things to do lol...
Well she liked it but with alzheimers comes doubt...of course this place is so big i'd get lost lol...but where her apt would be is centrally located...i'm thinking of things that i can make for her if you guys have any suggestions let me know...i'm thinking of a lanyard so we can clip on her apt number maybe put her keys on it maybe and can decorate it for her...trying to make her ease into this she did say to me this afternoon lets do it...but i know she will change her mind 800 x's lol...whats even better is I actually know someone who is there already and she just loves it...mom is fighting on me for the sake she'll have to give up driving...i told her that was eventually going to happen anyways...i get that look lol
Thanks for all your well wishes we have a week to make a decision...but if anyone has any ideas to help me transition her there....I really want her there...she needs more interaction with other people...and do more things then just be in her condo...worrying about things she doesn't need to worry about...I told her today I want her to have fun now.

Hi Mary,I just wanted to say that scrap room sounds like heaven on Earth. Hopefully, your mom's friends will visit with her and they can enjoy it together. Every chance you get lead your mom down memory lane. write down every little story she tells you. Make a scrapbook of her stories and add pictures of the people in them. As the disease progresses you can bring this out and tell her the stories and help her to be familiar with those pictures. This is not an easy road for either of you. She knows what's happening right now and it hurts her more...later you will be the one who feels it more. Just enjoy each moment with her and hold on and know that here in Alabama I am praying for you both! Hi Mary, If you have a local Alzheimers Association, sometimes they can offer you assistance with the transition. I participate in the annual walk for my local Association and fundraise for them. Our association here offers classes and assistance with this sort of thing. I hope this helps. I will be praying for you and your Mom! _____________________________ Please pray for our soldiers!!!

Thanks everyone I am so sure this is right for her but your right I to have mixed feelings but whats great is its not far away and it's on the way to where my son goes to school. So I know I will be there a lot...hehe definitely going to get her involved in the craft room! But this will stop her from doing things on her own lol like opening up bank accounts at the jewel lol. _____________________________ Mary #135 Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Everyday Don't take anything for granted let your loved ones know they are loved! |

Mary,Keep things as simple as possible. With this terrible disease comes a lot of uncertainty. I don't know if you live close by or not. If you don't, try to hire a companion to keep your mom focused. Someone to keep her on task, to encourage her to get out of her apartment, someone to do all of those cool crafts with. As time goes by, even the simplest crafts will become too difficult. Check out crafts for middle age children, then those for elementary aged kids and eventually for pre-schoolers. I know this is hard to read. It's difficult for me to write as I have been down this road. In the end, my mom couldn't even put shapes into a puzzle created for an 18 month baby. Do as much as you can with your mom. It's time you will never regret giving. If you want to talk or have any questions, just email me. |
