‘Create Behind the Seams’ Instagram mini challenge with Pellon® and Fiskateers

CBTSFacebookHighlight-4I’m excited to announce the launch of a new challenge today, that I’m hosting along with the kind people at Pellon – the go-to company for all our interfacing, batting and fiber-fill needs. Their motto is ‘the magic in the middle’ and I couldn’t agree more! This sentiment has inspired our challenge –

Create Behind the Seams

Both Pellon® and Fiskars® products are essential to creating a masterpiece, but they are not actually visible in the finished project. They are literally ‘Behind the Seams’.

We are asking you to create a summery project made using at least one Fiskars® and one Pellon® product.

  • Simply take a photo of your finished project and post it to Instagram using the hashtag #createbehindtheseams and tagging @pellonprojects and @fiskars_hq.
  • Tell us what you used to make it, for example ‘Original Orange Handled Scissors!’ or ‘EZ-Steam®’.
  • We’ll pick 3 random winners (first, second and third place) to win exciting Fiskars® and Pellon® prize packages. Winners to be announced July 14 2014.

If you’re looking for ideas and inspiration, be sure to stay tuned this week. Erin from the Pellon blog and I have teamed up and will be sharing some tutorials and ideas that embrace the harmony between Pellon® and Fiskars®.

May Day Flowers – mini challenge

A few years ago I wrote this article for the Fiskars corporate website which outlines several May Day traditions including my very favorite; May Day baskets. Surprising a friend or neighbor with a small bunch of spring flowers left on their doorstep is a completely charming thing to do and I’ve never met a crafter yet, who doesn’t love random acts of kindness.IMG_1030My challenge to you is to show some love this May Day and to rejoice in the changing of the season (hopefully those of you in the mid-west are seeing signs of spring by now?!!?). I’d like you to create your own little spring bouquet of flowers – they can be paper flowers, picked from the garden, bought from a store or growing in a pot for a friend, neighbor, teacher, stranger or loved one. Of course, you’ll need to make a ‘Happy May Day’ gift tag to go with it. You might like to leave them on the doorstep as a surprise or you might like to present them face to face. Either way, take a photo of your May Day basket and upload it to our FB page with the title May Day RAK. Though the bouquet should really be given to the recipient on May 1, you have until Monday May 5 at 11.59PST to get your photo uploaded. I’ll pick a winner from among the entries and will send them a prize. Contest open to residents of USA and Canada (excluding Quebec). Winner to be announced on/around Tues March 6 via FB message.

Card-making Challenge – Back to Basics

IMG_0151It’s time for a challenge I think, don’t you agree?

For this challenge, I’d like you to create a card and get back to basics and use only one tool –  a paper trimmer.

You may use all kinds of cardstock, embellishments, stamps and adhesives, but I want to see what impression you can make with only one basic tool. I don’t mind what kind of trimmer you use, or blade for that matter, but for once I’d like to encourage you to put down your squeeze punches, lever punches and scissors and get busy with the trimmer.

To be in with a chance of a prize, submit a photo of your finished card to our FB page by April 30 at 11.59 PST with the title ‘Back to ‘Basics’ and a quick sentence about your project.

Contest rules : Upload a photo of your finished project to our FB page. Entries must be posted before April 30 2014 at 11.59pm PST. Winner will be picked at random from all eligible entries. Winner to be announced on or around 5/1 on our FB page. Contest open to residents of US and Canada (exc. Quebec) only.

Black and white trend – Challenge

Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 12.21.49 PM

Last month we focussed on the black and white trend in the craft world and this month I’d like to extend the theme and issue you a challenge!

You must create a project (in any medium: sewing, paper crafts, mixed media…) with a black and white color scheme. You can include other colors too, but the overall main colors need to favor black and white. I’ve included a couple of photos that feature projects pinned to the Fiskateer Black and White Pinterest board. You might like to check it out for ideas and inspiration – there are plenty!
