Let's push and punch out those borders!!!!
As promised I thought share a few ideas on some borders (some with a mixed media twist). What I love about borders is that they are easy to create using punches and scraps. Using punches in non-traditional way, you get more for your buck and get to 'move outside the borders' and 'box', not to mention you put your scraps to good use. I'd like to share with you some borders I created and then I'd love for you to share.
So here's the how to beginning from the top left corner.
- Run a piece of masking tape or washi tape along the edge of your scrapbook or journal page. Embellish with Jenni Bowlin's tab punch, a punched and stacked flower using the Limited Edition Spring Flora squeeze punch and additional flowers.
- Using watercolors or watercolor crayons paint a border of color alongside the edge of your page. Then punch patterned paper and make two 12 inch strips. I used the Notebook border punch. Cut the border strip apart and sew on in two rows in random areas.
- Cut some random scraps into rectangles (some long and some shorter). Punch some scraps using circle, oval, rectangular or in this case I used the Fiskars 'Out of Shape' squeeze punch. Also punch a six inch border punch strip and cut into two. I used the 'Up In the Clouds' interchangable border punch. Then randomly place on top of one another to make a border. I love the different colors and shapes. Don't forget to use the little pieces of your border punch too. That's always fun.
- Lastly, while it's not a border . . . you can use the banner punch shape as little bullet points for journaling. Just thought I'd share that one.
P. S. ~ There is some fun washi tape including some in fiskateer colors. Etsy is wonderful place to look for some of your own. Oh so pretty in fisk-a-teer colors.
My challenge to you the next few days is to make some kind of border whether on a card, layout, in a journal or on a project. The key for this challenge is that you must use a portion, mix up your borders, stack your borders . . . something out of the ordinary . . . in this case, not just one punched strip with a border punch.
What you need to do . . .
- Feel free to share a comment here whether or not you're going to take the challenge.
- Post it in your gallery.
- Let me know via email at cheryl@fiskateers.com with the subject heading 'Border Challenge' that you are taking this on. Send me the link to your post in your gallery.
- The deadline . . . by midnight (Pacific Time) Wednesday February 29th.
I'll pick a winner randomly for all who take the challenge to win a Jenni Bowlin squeeze punch, border punch, and lever punch.

I really like and understand how some of your ideas really would add a totally different tone to cards or alteried items I would make. I am so bummed though that I won't be able to take on this challenge. I am leaving super early tomorrow morning to drive 4 hours, pick up our grandsons and fly to Disney World with them. I would like to stay up and do this challenge so you never know, but I really need to finish packing too! I really like your idea of layering boarders you punched out or even just putting a few together. Thanks Cheryl for not only the great ideas, but for also showing examples. I am such a visual learner!

What lovely inspiration Cheryl!!! My favourite is your stacked flower and I was wondering what you used between each layer? It doesn't look thick enough to be foam dots.
I am hoping to take up your challenge, just have to get a couple of traditional birthday cards done and then I can spread my wings :)

Great challenge. I posted my creation using Jenni Bowlin's Jester border punch, but I used the positive and negative parts as well as the strip along the bottom of my page. I accented the strip with patterned paper and thread. Thanks!
