Our Fiskateer of the Week was one of the participants in the Heart-y Challenge this week. I think you'll love all the pieces she created for her card using heart punches.
The How To
Make 5” x 7” card from medium pink. Cut green and white panels to fit and tape in place.
Punch the following shapes and colors using That’s Amore Medium and Large Squeeze Punches:
10 large hearts, dark pink
3 large hearts, medium pink
2 large hearts, light pink
5 medium hearts, green
2 large hearts, dark purple
2 medium hearts, medium purple
7 – ¼ inch hearts, medium purple
1 medium heart, yellow
2 medium hearts, vellum (see designer’s note)
To make each flower, sandwich either a medium or light pink heart between two dark pink hearts and fan them out. Glue together at bottom of cluster. Glue a green heart at the bottom of each flower. Glue or tape the flowers to the front of the card. I used mounting tape to attach two of the flowers to give depth to the card. Cut very narrow strips of the green cardstock to make stems and leaves as shown.
To make the butterfly, place two dark purple hearts point-to-point barely overlapping. Slide the hearts down and in toward each other to make the butterfly wings. Glue in place. I used mounting tape at the top of the wings and regular double-stick tape at the bottoms of the wings. Following the same downward line, attach the medium purple hearts. Attach a ¼” x 1” strip of purple between the wings. Glue the 7- ¼” hearts punched with Fiskars Heart Hand Punch in place along the strip overlapping each one. Set your gemstones where ever it pleases you.
To make the bumblebees, cut the yellow heart in half. Draw two curved lines across the half-hearts. Add glitter to the two vellum hearts (see designer’s note) and cut each one in half. Allowing some separation, meet the vellum points to the yellow point. Glue together and tuck inside the flower petals.
Stamp the sentiment from Punch Love Stamp Set with chalk ink.
Designer’s Tips
To prevent the glue from curling the bumblebee wings, apply glue and glitter to an area of the vellum sheet and allow it to dry before you punch the hearts out.
To make a clean punch when punching vellum, sandwich the vellum between two sheets of inexpensive copy paper and you will have a perfect punch every time.
