Benjamin Franklin said . . . "Fatigue is the best pillow." I think he was talking about working hard and I must agree. After a hard's day work there's nothing like laying your head down with a feeling that you have accomplished much.
But this fisk-a-pillow took no hard work to make/alter. It was a breeze and I thought I'd share the how to.
Supplies:
- Fiskars Fabric Scissors . . . I love my Donna Dewberry Razor Edged Fabric Scissors
- Fiskars Rotary Cutter
- Fiskars Self Healing Mat
- Pillow Form or pre-made pillow
- Vintage Doilies
- Straight Pins
- Needle and Thread
Instructions:
- Purchase a plain pillow or make your own cover for your pillow.
- Next, using some doilies (you often can get them for very inexpensive a flea markets or antique stores) place on the pillow as you like.
- Pin the doilies in place
- Next with a needle and thread and scissors sew the doilies in place
- Lastly trim doilies on sides that overlap either with a rotary cutter and mat or fabric scissors
Viola, you have an altered beautiful and meaningful (especially if your doilies come from grandma) pillow to brighten up your home. I love burnt orange and love our new addition. Simple as pie.
Have you made anything recently for your home? Maybe altered something? A lamp? Are you wanting to try a project to alter something? I encourage you to do so. I'd love to know your thoughts.

Cheryl those doilies in both corners that look like one is on top of the other but skewed slightly giving it dimension are so beautiful!!! Your pillow is beautifully done too! I LOVE Doilies and collect them. My problem is that I can't force myself to use them on a project. I do the same thing with womens hankies. If you can do this maybe I can too then. Also, I have ask - have you ever met Donna Dewberry? I got to meet and talk to her (on a very personal level too where she shared with me about the loss of her daughter only a year after it happened) at a sewing seminar weekend. She is one amazing lady! She is so talented, creative, devoted mom and grandmother, funny, and I could go on about all her good qualities. She has a son who is designing fabric now too. Have a great day!

I love the look of the doilies on the pillows, but like Kelly, I too would be afraid to use them. As for doing anything for the home, I am in that inbetween stage and waiting for all of the baby gates to come down and the kids to get a little older before I invest much time into creating anything meaningful. Things get ruined so quickly around here!
Thanks for the quick instructions Cheryl, I will be saving this idea for a later date!

GORGEOUS!!! Love your doilies Cheryl - thank you for sharing this fun cushion project!!!
It has been a while since I last sewed something for our home - desperately needed to make some covers for the top/head section of the recliners, nothing fancy, just a pretty fabric that blended in with the colours of the rest of the furniture.

I was going to say this is really cool, but that's just not the right word for it. It's just lovely! I can see your style so much in it, but it's also so universally beautiful.
