It's kind of fitting that I used the Birthday Party Dress pattern by Oliver+S because Tegenn (my American child. The other one is English.) is planning on wearing this little red, white and blue number on the 4th of July. Happy Birthday America!
Anyone who has a little experience with sewing clothing but has yet to try some of the amazing independent pattern designers, really ought to take the plunge. In my experience, the patterns are so well written and user-friendly. Often, the designers have blogs, facebook pages or even run sewalongs of some of their patterns and they make themselves available which is really helpful if you run into problems. And if they can't help, they usually have a community of avid fans who will step in too.
I'm not sure if you can see it in the photo, but there are some lovely box pleats through the center of the dress. It is such a pretty feature - and that tab along the top is cute!!! There are buttons down the entire length of the back of the dress - I'll share more photos in the gallery because I can only post one photo here.
I used fabric from the Ahoy Matey collection by Michael Miller fabrics and it was the perfect combination between something summery and nautical as well as being red, white and blue.
Who else is indulging in a bit of sewing this summer?
