Back To Our Roots

Oftentimes, the start of a new year is a chance for many of us to look back over the months that have passed, and determine what direction our lives will take for the coming year. The same thing frequently happens in the business world. Fiskars has taken the time to reflect on the numerous awards and accolades they have received over the years in the area of tool design, and has decided that its time to get back to its roots and do the thing that it does best: design and produce innovative, awesome, award-winning crafting and garden tools. What exactly does this mean to all of us? It means that there are some exciting changes coming! Not only can we expect exciting new tools for papercrafting, but well also get to see new and forward-thinking tool designs for other crafts as well!

This refocusing also brings another change as well. After the CHA winter show this month, Fiskars will no longer be presenting any new consumable products in the Heidi Grace, Cloud 9, Ink by Steph, Lil Davis, or Kimberly Poloson lines. Consumable products are items like paper, rub-ons, stickers, etc. We will, however, continue to produce great new stamps, scissor blade designs, and other non-consumable items for these lines. Dont worry though! We will still be doing a lot of papercrafting around here, as well as on the Fiskars Crafts website, but well also be offering a wider diversity of craft projects as well! Well be expanding our crafting horizons, so to speak, and were excited to have all of you along for the ride. The Fiskateers have been, and will continue to be, an invaluable part of the Fiskars family, which is why theyve asked us to share this information with all of you first.

What a bold move. In these times I think we are all looking at consumables with a different eye. Hooray for Fiskars for looking at what will really give us a good value and for focusing on what it does best.

Everyone will miss the consumables as they have been so awesome but as long as they keep producing the great tools to help us to make our own embellishments…yahooo. Thank you for making the new consumables you have been giving us sneak peeks at.
    Great new photo there ladies.

Tools, tools, tools……just keep those tools coming! I will of course miss the consumables and they were always such wonderful lines!

i am going to be the first to say, That Stinks! I love Heidi Grace. What does that mean for her. Where is she going to go? boo hoo!

  13. Heidi Mansion #525 says:

Fiskars has always done tools better than anyone in the industry. I think you made the right decision. The consumable lines will be missed, with out a doubt, but I love my Fiskars cutter, punches, and scissors more! Congratulations on a very bold move. Heidi

  14. Genevieve says:

I’m with Fiskars wherever they go. Good for them for following their strengths.

  15. Patty 2832 says:

Wow. I do love my Fiskars tools though.

  16. Marla #3291 says:

WOW that is a HUGE move. I LOVE paper and will hate to see it go away but I like the fact that they will still be doing tools which included punchs!!!!!!!!!

  17. Maya says:

I support Fiskars in any decision the make! Looking forward for more awesome tools! I hope Heidi Grace will continue to design scrapbooking products. I really really love her products and her.

  18. Patty 2262 says:

I’m a little sad, Heidi Grace and Cloud 9 are my favorite lines. I will miss not looking for the next line to come out. But I do hope Fiskars survives in this terrible economic condition we have so I support whatever they feel they need to do to survive.

  19. Christine C #2264 says:

Wow, I too hope like everyone else that the designers are able to still produce their papers and embellies some how.
I think the move will prompt some of us back to making our own embellishments (which I think is fun anyway), so it will be good to see some projects like that into the future.

  20. Jennifer #2932 says:

I’ve loved all the consumable lines I’ve seen, but can’t find them around here very often so I don’t suppose I’ll miss them that much. Can’t wait to see what’s in store tool wise!! I love all my Fiskars tools and they’re getting lonely…they need more friends to play with!!

  21. Michelle #915 says:

will the lines still be around? just not through fiskars?

  22. [Amy] #1050 says:

wow. this is shocking and sad! heidi grace has long been my favorite paper designer. i really hope that she can find another avenue to keep designing new lines. i’m so sad.

of course i love fiskars tools, but i’m really going to miss the paper. any word on adhesive? i know it’s considered a consumable, but i love the fiskars tape runners the best of all available.

  23. Tina Mayo says:

wow, I am scard of this a little, i love paper –i am a hoarder of paper, not sure i can live w/o my heidi grace & cloud 9, but inew things are coming I will stay on the bus, as I love everything this company does, and stands for. I know they mus have reasons soo i respect their decisions.

  24. Sondra says:

Aww, I was just getting started scrapbooking and loving all the papers and embellies. But my former crafting/stamping self does prefer a good tool so I suppose this is a good thing after all.

  25. Rita Arnold says:

    Sorry.
The comsumble lines will be missed.
But change is always good and exciting!!

  26. jen t. says:

    fiskars rocks!

  27. Laura #1943 says:

I fully support any business decisions Fiskars makes ! They know what they are doing…or they wouldn’t be the BEST !!….

When God takes something from your grasp, He’s not punishing
you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better.

Thank you for letting us know!

  28. debby 2852 says:

I think along with Fiskars we are going to see new several wonderful directions for the papercrafting industry. I’m excited about the potential of what is happening and I’m glad as a Fiskateer to be a small part of that.

I’m not sure what is going to happen to HG and other…I do know you a great designer will continue to move forward and probably in very exciting ways.

  29. Diane #4226 says:

wow!!! Is all I can really think of, Bold move yes, exciting can’t wait etc. But I am so goign to miss Heidi and Cloud 9..LOVE CLOUD 9!!

  30. Jenny B #2303 says:

Oh, this is sort of sad. I love Heidi Grace and Cloud 9.. What will happen to them?

However, I have a newfound love for punches thanks to Fiskars so, I’m really glad they will continue to keep making them :)

  31. vicki in MD says:

while this is a bit sad, you have come out with some great line and consumable products, it is wonderful that you are going back to ‘your roots’ and continuing with more great products. That is what Fiskars is know for! I’m with you all the way!

  32. Mardi says:

    Hmmmmmm, my Heidi is leaving?!?!?

  33. EileenW says:

I’ve always been a huge Fiskars tool fan. Can’t wait to see what you come up with in the future!

  34. Lynda aka arlsmom says:

Wow…although I will totally miss all the yummy things that you will no longer be manufacturing…I am sure the decision was not taken lightly. I can not wait to see what you will be coming out with next!

  35. Tona says:

I’m excited…and a little sad. I loved the paper, especially Heidi Grace. Looking forward to see what Fiskars has in mind for us…I know it’ll be great!

  36. Mary Mc says:

I wish fiskars luck with their new endeavours!

  37. melita says:

Talk about a big change! I will miss HG and C9, but I am sure that Fiskars has put a lot of thought into making that decision. Can’t wait to see what is in store for Fiskars next!

  38. Debra #5116 says:

I am a little on the fence here. I simply adored the paperlines, but love Fiskars and really really enjoy the fiskateers. So I suppose all thats left to do is hold on tight and see what great things the future brings.

  39. Sandy #5508 says:

Being newer to scrapping I have just started to enjoy HG. But I love tools, punches and templates so will be looking forward to the quality products they will be coming out with.

  40. Jess # 5319 says:

I will miss the paper lines. I hope the designers will find another outlet for their work. Will the designers have copyright over the old paper designs? Or will they belong to Fiskars?
I love Fiskars tools. They are the only ones I have found that out last all others! So I’m sure this move will be good for them. Thanks for all the wonderful things you have brought us!

  41. Laura B says:

This is a hard time for everyone and I know businesses have to make the hard decisions but your “consumables” will be missed. I will pray for all touched by the trickle down effect. I hope Fiskateers will continue to exist and thrive as the great place we have all come to love.

  42. Sarah #3020 says:

    what a bummer!!

  43. Maxine Hodges says:

I hope that the consumable lines will be continued somewhere, but Fiskars does make the best tools. Every company and person has to work to it’s strengths. I certainly hope that Fiskateers will continue to thrive as it as.

  44. kimberlee #2494 says:

Well this should be interesting! I really can’t imagine a scrap company (although Fiskars is much more than that) without paper!!!

  45. kimberlee #2494 says:

Wait! What about fabric???!!! No more fabric, too?

  46. Amy #3888 says:

I heard rumors of this not long ago but it’s sad to see it come to pass. I’ll still be a supporter of Fiskars, Heidi and Cloud9 no matter what umbrella they fall under. Thanks for the heads up - we know we can count on Fiskars to keep us in the creative loop!

  47. Sara R. says:

Wow! I must say I’m a bit disappointed, but can respect your decision. I look forward to the new stamps! ;)

  48. Jennifer Priest says:

I am really sad to see the comsumables go because I love Lil Davis and Heidi Grace. But I have to admit the stores here have had varied success selling those products I think mostly because the market is just Soooooooo saturated with consumables.

Fiskars is great at making tools and there aren’t too many other companies out there who are good at that so I totally respect and understand the move. I hope this move helps Fiskars to stay on top and stay around for the long haul–love Fiskars!

  49. Chrys says:

As much as I love Fiskars tools, I am sad to see Heidi, Lil’ Davis and Cloud 9 go….I’m truly hoping that they land on their feet somewhere else before the next show. There has been too many companies closing or designer lines discontinuing that it’s getting depressing! I still need my paper fix!

  50. RitaS says:

I am sure that this is a very smart business decision - I LOVE Fiskars tools - the innovation and quality cannot be beat! But I do wonder if the designer’s consumable lines will be available through another vendor source? I know that customers adore Heidi Grace papers in the store - they would be heartbroken to see it go away.

  51. Michelle says:

    This is so sad…

  52. Veronica Hugger says:

I understand the business decision, but like others, I’m bummed for Heidi. Her designs set some solid trends. I hope to see her return soon.

  53. Debra Buckland says:

wowza. No consumables. thats a shock!

But I can’t wait to see what they come up with for sewing and paper crafting in the way of tools!

  54. Sharon Ivanauskas says:

That is a very bold move. But when I think of Fiskars I think of the tools. So going back to the roots may be good for them.

  55. Bonnie Jackson says:

FYI, the principals of Heidi Grace, L’il Davis and Cloud 9 were let go mid 2008. I’d be surprised if the other “names” are still with Fiskars. First, they fire the talent, then they change their products. And you people are all rushing to support them. Welcome to big business!

  56. Angela says:

Bonnie (and all): As a longtime Heidi Grace Designs fan, I will miss looking forward to new paper releases, too. However, I do think it’s important to point out that Heidi Grace and the Cloud 9 designers (Amy & Nancy) had a great opportunity to sell their brands to Fiskars several years ago. When they made the choice to sell their brands, it was part of the contractual agreement that they stay on for a specific amount of time to work with Fiskars. The time between Heidi, Amy and Nancy selling their brands and continuing to work with Fiskars per their contract was designed to be a time period that allowed Fiskars to become familiar with their design style as the brand transitioned from a small independently owned brand to the larger collection they became as part of the Fiskars collection of products. And being friends with other fledgling paper companies in the industry, I can assure you that many of them would be very happy to have the opportunity to sell their brands to a company like Fiskars.

  57. Kathie Jo says:

I will truly miss Heidi Grace and Cloud 9, they are my two favs. I have been scrapping for many years and have seen a lot of changes in the industry. I like many of us have seen many new tools as well as consumable products introduced every year. This is evident in the scrapbooks on my shelf. The progression in style and technique is amazing. Bonnie your right, Fiskars is a big business and in big business we often have to make big decisions. I may be one of the new kids on the block around here, but I have to say, I have never seen a more generous company than Fiskars. I think the unique marketing that is Fiskateers is pure genius, and I applaud the Fiskars company for their efforts. I wish them well in all of their endeavors and hope to be a part of this community and experience for many years to come.

  58. Kimberlee (#1977) says:

This is incredibly disappointing. The majority of my “fiskars” purchases were the paper lines. Major bummer and turn off.

  59. merridee says:

i wishs friskers would design items that could be used for masking. in lg sizes as well as atc size which is 2.5 x 3.5.

  60. Kelly says:

I am really sad that this decision has been made. I am an AVID Heidi Grace purchaser, and all I can say is, I will follow Heidi wherever she goes. If it’s Fiskars competitor, so be it, I like Heidi Grace much more than any Fiskars product. So, sorry to hear that, I think she had a HUGE following, and Fiskars missed out on the boat by not having her website and her blog be at it’s full potential. Very sad day.

  61. Fisk-A-Teers » News from Fiskars says:

[…] Back in January we announced that Fiskars was going “Back to Our Roots” to focus on producing tools for their school, office, gardening and crafting lines.  This meant that Fiskars would no longer be producing consumable products like papers, stickers, rub-on’s and etc.  When this announcement was made several months ago, a lot of us were asking ourselves “What would happen to our favorite lines like Heidi Grace and Cloud 9?”  […]
