Wow, we sure do have a lot of talented Fiskateers here! Check out these great projects, and remember, we love to see your comments!
Yaritza, Fiskateer #3395, Beginner Project - I’m a mother of one beautiful daughter. I’m artistic. I’ve always been. Between dance, music, hair styling and now crafting it’s the only thing I know how to be. I’ve been sewing for about 4 years now. Grandma Eby bought me my first sewing machine. Ever since I’ve been in love. I’m not very good at it but I enjoy the process. One of my favorite sewing tools is the Fiskars Clear ruler and rotary cutter. It makes cutting straight lines super easy and I love that.
Camera strap:
-First you need to measure the camera strap you have. Give yourself an extra 1/2 an inch on every side for the seams.
-Fold both ends over 1/2 an inch and sew. Make sure both sides are going in the same direction.
-Now fold the fabric in half. Make sure that the sewn ends are facing out. Sew a 1/2 inch in.
-Turn the fabric right side out.
-Slide it on the camera strap and now you have a more attractive strap
I love this idea, thanks Yaritza!
Tania, Fiskateer #, Intermediate project - I was first introduced to sewing when my grandmother and my parents purchased a house together when i was entering 4th grade. My grandmother had been a seamstress for as long as i can remember, even taking special orders from mother’s at the hospital that had delivered premie babies. I was mesmerized by the fact that she could take a pile of fabric and actually turn it into something so beautiful. I’m lucky in that, she never shooed me away from her projects and always took the time to let me sit by her side and answer my millions of questions. Since then, I’ve had a love of sewing.
My favorite Fiskars sewing tool is the 45mm Rotary Cutter. It makes cutting quilt pieces an absolute party! I don’t think I would ever tackle making a quilt without my rotary cutter. No way! Someday, I’d love to own the 65mm Softgrip Rotary though since it is compatible with both the 45mm and 65mm blades. The project I’m featuring is the PERFECT starter quilt for anyone who is comfortable sewing, but intimidated by making a huge quilt. By learning the simple “Cracker” quilt block, you can make this as small as lap size or all the way up to king sized, depending on your comfort level with the quilting process. What makes this quilt even more fun is that you can create the entire things with fabric SCRAPS! Preparing the pieces is super simple using just three tools: rotary cutter, self-healing cutting mat with grids and a 6×12 gridded ruler. With those three tools, you’ll be able to cut the pieces to size in a snap. Cutting is simply squares and rectangles, then the squares get cut in half on the diagonal to form 2 identical triangles. After cutting, you sew the triangles to either side of the rectangles to create your blocks. Then follow up by attaching block to block. The binding is super simple, created from scratch or you can opt for store bought bias tape. I chose to knot my quilt instead of hand quilting. The pattern is easily accessible online. Just go to google.com and search for “cracker quilt”.
Wow, this is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing Tania!
Judy, Fiskateer #3708, Intermediate project - I have been sewing off and on for over 38 years. My mother had her own home based dressmaking business so I was exposed to all aspects of sewing at a very early age. However, I didn’t start sewing in earnest until my youngest daughter was an infant. I made a lot of my daughters’ clothes as they were growing up. I got my first embroidery machine three years ago and I am totally hooked on machine embroidery. Almost all my sewing projects now incorporate some machine embroidery and/or machine embroidery appliqué into them.
My favorite Fiskars sewing tool would be scissors – they are the only Fiskars sewing tool that I currently own. I like them because they are lightweight and easy to use.=0
I have made several purses and totes over the past few months using Simplicity 4263. I wanted to make tote bags for my little granddaughters but wanted something simple to make so worked up my own pattern. I started with squares of fabric for the tote and lining using my 12×12 Cricut mat as a cutting pattern. This allowed for a nice ½ inch seam allowance. Using my Explorations Lettering software, I worked up an embroidery design for each tote. Since I made these totes without a pattern & instructions to go by and they have machine embroidery on them, I would consider them to be an intermediate level. If anyone would like more info on how I made the totes, I would be glad to work up step by step instructions. Here are the two totes that I made.
Amazing, thanks Judy!
