Inspiring Minds Want To Know

Hello all! I can’t wait to tell you about my weekend . . . what a fun time. We took a little time to be together as a family . . . a little impromptu mini vacation and even spent a little time with a precious Fiskateer friend. I will share more about our fun adventure.
I wanted to share something with you that will hopefully inspire you to create.
This is the beginning of a journey that I’ll call . . . “Inspiring Minds Want to Know.” About once a month (maybe twice if it’s a great month and I’m able to visit two special and inspiring places), we will take a field trip to an inspiring place. A place that is fun, peaceful, creative, unusual . . . any of these things.
After you visit (view) this inspiring place I will encourage you to create something . . . a layout, card, project and share how you were inspired. I will ask you to post the project/layout/card in your gallery and explain to me in one or two sentences what struck you about this place as inspiring. I will choose a winner (or two) for each trip we take.
How many of you watched Mr. Rogers? He was a man dear to my heart and I loved the trips we took on his show. He would go to a factory where they made violins or candy, a publishing house for books, or a trip to the post office. Mr. Rogers encouraged creativity in children (who grew up to be adults)! He was an awesome man and I loved sharing his adventures with him.
I hope you too will enjoy going on these trips with me and my goal is that it would inspire you to create.
Our first trip/edition . . . to a wonderful place around the corner from my work called Powell’s Sweet Shoppe. It is a chain and maybe you have one near you. It’s kind of hidden but word of mouth has spread and the minute you walk in these doors . . . it’s bliss. Watch out you candy lovers (that would be me, Angela and many of you) because it’s a happy place. They also house lots of vintage toys. Pardon the filming . . . because it is a chain . . . they allowed me to film but only to pan the area . . . couldn’t focus too much on one spot so if you get motion sickness . . . hang tight. Okay . . . a few technical difficulties but I’ve got the bulk of the video. So join me on this trip . . . let’s go check it out . . .

So I haven’t had the opportunity to create much lately due to a busy schedule. I can only go so long before I have to create . . . it’s like an itch. After visiting this wonderfully sweet place I enjoyed creating these couple of pages. I loved the colors of this unique store . . . the wrappers, the fun and brightly mixed colors, the sheer emotion that this place evokes as you walk in . . . happiness. I also loved the bins of gumballs, M and M’s, and different shapes and shades of candy.
Here’s a stack of a few layouts I created.
Here’s the happy go lucky, bright, two page layout I created. I attempted to provide a sweet flavor to the layout. I stacked some unusual pieces to make my own embellishments. I used some rain dots on my transparency and they greatly resemble candy. I love my rain dots and often they look so yummy and sweet that I could eat them all up! They are fun on transparencies although I had to use some glue to make sure they stayed put.
So . . . if you were inspired after our little field trip and would like to participate . . . please feel free to create away, post, then send me an email with the link to your project letting me know you’d like to join in the fun. The deadline for this challenge will be . . . September 5th. Maybe you are inspired by the color, the smell (although you can only imagine), or maybe you will use a title named after a candy bar or use wrappers on your layout! Whatever it might be . . .

August 26th, 2008 at 8:57 pmFun Cheryl! Love your LOs - cute as can be!
The Sweet Shoppe reminded me some of the Cracker Barrel around here - with a myriad of fun things to make you happy! I loved all the bright colors, and of course things sorted by color. Which reminded me of MY happy place, which I have just about finished reorganizing! So I know the subject to scrap - how long do we have?

I’m sure the video is just outstanding. I can’t get it to work either. But, your description was enough to motivate me!

August 27th, 2008 at 12:46 amHi Cheryl!
Wow, I bet you all had a great time! Wish I had the time to scrap! Fall term started yesterday, so I’m already swapped! Taking 13 credits this term! Only one class next term and my gen ed classes are done, so I can wait for my name to come up on the waiting list at Grossmont!
Keep up the great work and I’ll enjoy reading about it, even if I can’t participate in the challenges!
Love and Hugs,
Stephanie

Love your layouts Cheryl! I really love the connection between the circle and the trim on your daughter’s shirt. Perfect!

August 29th, 2008 at 1:05 amOh Cherly I love that place. Someone had told me about it and I went to check it out and believe it or not I happen to run into Suzy Plantamura, her family and camera in hand. So I told her that I would be looking for her layout in the next CK magazine.

October 7th, 2008 at 9:20 amHi, Cheryl! I’ve been away for a while since having shoulder issues and not scrapping, but I’m back and catching up on the gallery, blogs and all. What a neat place that candy store is! We don’t have them out east. Their website has some video clips of news stories about them, fun watching: http://www.powellssweetshoppe.com/pages/awards.html
