Surprising New Fisk-a-teers

When I’m at scrapbook stores and talking about how fun it is to be a Fisk-a-teer, someone usually points out that that I’m forgetting to mention the free goody Fiskars sends new Fisk-a-teers. I’d like to share why I rarely mention this when I’m talking about the Fisk-a-teer program. When I first signed up as a Fisk-a-teer, I had NO idea I should expect something in the mail from Fiskars. It was a fantastic surprise when I discovered a package in my mailbox a few months later. Complete with my prized #9 on it. I was totally amazed at Fiskars’ generosity and creativity.
The reason I don’t tell many people about this special treat in advance is because I like the idea of more Fisk-a-teers experiencing the same surprise I did. I also know Fiskars would prefer to have new Fisk-a-teers joining our community because they are passionate about crafting and because they’re looking forward to meeting like-minded crafters. Not just because they want a “freebie” (not that we don’t all love freebies!) and not just to generate inflated membership numbers. I believe there is a true emphasis on friendship and mutual passion here which keeps our community so friendly and fun to be at. So while it’s natural that some people will notice your special Fisk-a-teer goody (especially if you bring it to crops) and you will probably be asked how you got it, I hope you will recognize the fun of letting as many of our new Fisk-a-teer members be surprised as I was. Were any of you surprised too? Do you think it made receiving your “goody” more special?
I was reminded of this topic because Nikki at Fiskars asked that we relay some important information about this special Fiskars treat in case some of our new Fisk-a-teers are waiting for it. Here’s what Nikki told us: “As you know, we did not anticipate the SURGE in Fiskateer membership that we have received in 2008 alone. On our first batch of [Surprise Goodies] ever created, we had 4089 [Goodies] created and engraved. We have sent all of those out to date. We had a delay in ordering more scissors because of the new website launch. We were considering changing the handle colors [Oops. I think you might guess if you don’t already know! And as far as I know, they decided not to change the colors]. We have ordered 2000 more [Goodies] but they won’t be received until the end of October. Therefore, any new Fiskateer since #4090 will not be getting their [Surprise] until later this year.”

The friendships, sharing what we do and WHY we do it…the positive atmosphere and general kindnesses are why I have made this community my home! I don’t know what I would be doing without my Fiskateer friends and FISKARS, and frankly, I don’t want to find out. Thanks for all you do FOR us…My creativity has been taken to new places and I am a much better crafter for it !! Huggs !

I remember months ago seeing on a freebie website and on a blog..someone mentioning the Fiskars (surprise) and how you could get it. 
I thought..Oh no…that’s not what this is about..it’s just not about the (surprise).

July 29th, 2008 at 2:36 pmI did not know about the [beep] until someone mentioned it on a post online so it was a HUGE surprise knowing it was coming…unfortunately mine did get lost in the mail but Nikki assured me she was sending out a replacement.I joined the Fiskateers becuz I thrive on seeing other member’s projects & love talking online thru the community. Course I would be lying if I didn’t say I enjoy RAK’s & contests too…….but this is the only online site that I visit daily.

I joined because I wanted to be a community where I could share my creativity with other kind hearted and artistic people—and I definitely found that—and more. The RAKs are wonderful but the little messages sent to me by other fisk-a-sisters are even better. It is wonderful to have friends everywhere!!
I look forward to my ’surprise’ in the Fall!

I just met and scrapped with some new Fiskateer buddies last weekend; we had an amazing time-Thanks to Nancy, Deborah, Dawn, Nicole, Terri, Sharon, Lynne and E for a great time! (I did forget one ladies name and aI apologize) It was all about the fellowship! Pictures in my profile area -Kate Fiskateers # 4529 and yes, I learned how to use that cool scallop punch!

July 29th, 2008 at 4:15 pmI’ve been a Fiskateer member since April of 2007. I’m not even sure how I learned of this site and more than likely it was during one of my “blog hops”. When I joined, the [beep] came pretty quickly and was a nice surprise. Although the [beep] are nice, I’ve gotten so much more from being a Fiskateer. I’ve joined numerous sites in the past but this site is one that I’ve stayed with & continued to be involved with. I love it! I kick myself for not joining sooner. lol
I agree that being a Fiskateer is much more than the [beep]…they are just an added bonus. A bonus that would be nice to keep a surprise.

I did see her fiskars gift as did many of the others who cropped with us. I went home that night and signed up. Well I forgot about it until it arrived and I was so excited. Now I share fiskars love wherever I go.

I also don’t mention it to people I speak with, I just urge them to join because the community has some very awesome energy, and it’s so much fun….but I do mention how much I love Fiskars.

But once I joined it seemed like a fun place to be…….I was working FT so didn’t visit very often. Then I decided to be a Stay at home mom and it was the first place I started “spending my time.” So since last October I come here daily (unless on vacation or out of town) and sometimes several times in a day!

I do mention the [beep], but also stress the community and all the great things that Fiskars and everyone shares, etc.. I don’t stress one thing over another, but you’re right–it might be nice to have them SURPRISED!! I’ll keep mum in the future–but come on… only ordering another 2000 goodies??? Betsy- Yep, there use to be a link to that. We’ve asked C.J. and the web team if they can work on adding back that info along with the blinkies. Hopefully, they’ll have that back on again soon. -Angela

I have invited and seen about 100 people join the Fiskateers based on my word alone, some have seen the wonderful [beep] and learned that they too would get them, but I enjoy telling people MORE about the great site and “Community” feeling here.
