Weekend Projects Anyone?

Around here, no surface is safe from paper lately. I used to strictly make scrapbook pages but then my eye began to wander… This weekend, I remembered the old clearance-priced lamp in my little boy’s room. I’ve never really loved it. He’s just not a truck kind of kid. And then I thought about that October Afternoon monster paper Kelly Jo and I were so excited about bringing home from CHA. One thing led to another and, after a little bit of Fiskars adhesive, I had the lamp back in his room. His reaction? He thinks its “okay” but he doesn’t like change so I should have known to ask him. He also questioned whether he was too old for cute monster paper (he wasn’t buying my explanation that they “kind of” of looked like Poke-mon) … I should have used Max’s Backyard!

Did anyone else tackle projects this weekend? What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever covered with scrapbook paper? Add it to the gallery and comment with a link here.

Great job on the lamp. I can not think of anything unusual that I’ve covered with paper, but - after some thought I’ll probably recall something out of the ordinary.

I didn’t do any “craft” projects, but I did re-do my son’s room. He’s 15 and needed something more age appropriate. Painted the walls gray with a large red strip and painted all his furniture black. It turned out really good. He won’t admit it, but I think he really liked it.

The only crafty thing I did this weekend was…. rubbing ink all over a piece of vellum and tried to squeeze punch out some shapes to make flowers with (I have no vellum flowers and love what I’m seeing! ) Wasn’t the best experiement but will keep trying!

    LOL, Angela! I love it!
We just started painting our bedroom. It’s shaped like an ‘L’ and Baby Brother’s crib is going to be in there for a while so I thought it needed an update. I was really trying to figure out a way to get those cute monsters in there. =)

    Great lampshade. =)

Love the lamp! I tried my hand at clear (using transparencies) greeting cards. I was quite pleased with my results.

Angela — you did a great job on the lamp. I know what you mean on the whole “he isn’t happy about change” my son will not let me change anything in his room either. He says “Spiderman is perfect!!” He has a green lamp in there that doesn’t match with anything - It was his sisters lamp when his broke in the move she gave him the green one and it drives me crazy. So I tried to change it by painting it. He caught me and told me “no it’s a hulk lamp”!

The paper you used is so cute… It reminds me of Monsters Inc.

WOW - how cool is that!! I would not have thought to use scrapbook paper for something like that!! Great job!!

Love the monster lamp. Can’t share what I worked on this weekend, sorry. BUT will say your son is like mine - doesn’t like change. Cannot wait to do his room over, but he refuses to let me take off the rainforest animal nursery border (because there are elephants) - he is 10! He likes the idea of fighter plane murals - but wants to keep the elephants. (LOL)

I did not work on anything this weekend we had to go to a party and then it was just the two of us time. . but I am working on our wedding album today! I should be cleaning but who wants to just to that?

I love your lamps it is a very cool idea!

I think it’s adorable-might even have to make me one! But I do understand “boys”-can you imagine trying to please 4 of them. Only thing that saved me was that 3 of them were superhero,Star Wars junkies so I could pass things on.

I talked a chipboard album for my friend Stehanie…pics will be coming. i don’t have the binder clips on it yet

  17. Christine C says:

That looks great - you did a wonderful job.

No joke — my craft project over the weekend was also a lamp. I took an old candlestick, brass lamp and spray painted the brass part with Krylon’s Brushed Metallic spray. It came out great. Then I thought I’d make a lamp shade with heavy weight paper, some Color Wash, and stamps. I was pleased with the paper shade until I tried to get it onto the two metal rings. Yikes. What a disaster. The shade is completely crooked. I think I’m going to buy a new shade and just decorate it!

Your lamp looks adorable. What a nice, special touch for you son’s room.

I was sick all weekend..still am, but I’m hoping that today I’ll be able to get some crafting done. I’m planning on getting some tote bags made..I won’t be covering them in paper, but I will be making a card later on that will be covered in paper.

Cool stuff. I love it and it have me an idea for my teen son’s room. I’ll post it when I finish it up. In the meantime I think the clock is the funniest thing I’ve done.

That lamp ROCKS! As an anime fan, I do have to agree with your son that they look nothing like Pokemon, but they’re still extremely cool. And Pokemon are a bit passe’ anyway. ;) Have him check out Fruits Basket–it’s a very cool anime with an incredibly sweet story about family being where you find it. Plus, the lead male character is a rat. :)

Well, it’s not crazy, but I’ve been collecting shoe boxes so I can cover them with scrapbook paper and have my students decorate them. They will be for their individual goals and objectives and when they come in each morning, they can get their goal boxes to do an activity while I take attendance. I’m excited to now be working with preschoolers and kindergarteners with special needs, and I hope to bring in scrapping fun as much as possible.
