*Rock, Paper, Trimmer*
One of the coolest things to come out this CHA will be the new Rock, Paper, Trimmer. Yep, those are hook ups for your MP3 player or your Ipod (or the iphone that is featured at the TOP of my birthday wish list)- with nice speakers built right in. This is the trimmer for any crafter who likes to work while listening to music. We asked Chris Eby (self-titled “Fisk-a-neer #1) to tell us a little history behind the development of the Rock, Paper, Trimmer and this is what he had to say:
“Ah yes, if only I had come up with it…
A young lad on our sales team suggested the idea to the product manager Mr. T.
The next thing I know Ted is back in our Engineering Lab/Shop chopping up trimmers & speakers like a true engineer.
Feeling a little left out, I inquired about his endeavors and became the resident engineer on the project.
So as much as I’d like to take credit for the original idea, there was a sales guy involved;) After evaluating the Frankenstein Prototype Ted pieced together, I took care of the details: where do I put my music player, where is the cord, what if I get tangled in the cables on the bottom of the trimmer . . . Oh the details. We always have a lot more ideas than we have time to get into the first version of a product, so we worked quickly and got the speakers and other details into the 45mm Rotary Paper Trimmer product. Fully functional trimmer with decorative blades and speakers to boot, pretty cool!
Keep bugging us for everything else you want with it, I’m keeping a list.
The funniest moment during development I remember was one day I was testing a protoype walking around the building with it up on my shoulder like a boombox. That got some interesting looks.
Looking forward to being at CHA next week, I may only be there Friday, so if you’re coming be sure to keep an eye out for me and say hi!
I’ll be showcasing the new Deluxe PPT, we’re into the fine details, but have parts off production tooling!
Till next week,
Chris
