Archivers

If you are like me, and live in a state that does not have an Archivers then you’re probably curious what it’s all about and if the hype is justified, right? I know that I was very interested to see what it is all about! It isn’t the same thing as a great independant store, if you know what I mean. I definitely like the character that a really good LSS has. However, as you all know I like to share my adventures with you and so I wanted to document my Archivers experience. I can only share this photo of the front of Archivers at Mall of America with you, because they don’t allow inside photos of the store. That’s ok- you’ll get a good feel for it…

1archivers.JPG So, what can I say? They have a lot of fun stuff- including tons of inks and stamps. They also have a good selection of Fiskars tools and I saw some Cloud 9, Heidi Grace, and Lil Davis stuff too. They definitely do not feel the same as a LSS. I get the feeling that the stores are all similar in design and content. I really appreciate that they are so CLEAN AND NEAT. That’s one complaint I have of a lot of independants is that they don’t put enough effort into a pretty presentation that is easy to navigate. Overall? I felt like I was in a very upscale paper crafting chain store, and it was an enjoyable shopping experience.

They had several exclusive lines and products, and new stuff I had never seen. I guess my bottom line would be this- those of us living in a state with no archivers? If you’re visiting a state that does have them do make time for a visit. It’s an enjoyable experience.

PS- the manager of this store told me that while they do not have an on-line shopping site, you CAN call their store and order up products- and they’ll ship them right to you!

PPS- I need to do 1 last RAK. I’ve got some goodies (left-over) from last weekend… just comment on this post to enter- and I’ll e-mail you direct if you win!

We have an Archivers here in Columbus, Ohio. It was even in a scene from the 1st 48 crime drama show on TV. The detectives flew in from Florida to find out about the deceased guys family in Columbus. My DH thought I was nutz when I screamed “There’s Archiver’s”.
The place is awesome and the staff are so nice.

We crop at Archiver’s occasionaly (although a little smaller store than the MoA). I like it because there is so much product to choose from. However, I’d rather be at a small, local store any time. They’re just more comfortable and you find the people that work there love crafting as much as you do. So, I agree, stop at Archiver’s if you’re near one, but don’t feel like you’re missing out if you don’t. (please don’t include me in the rak)

By the way, what did you think of our Mall of America?

I know exactly what you are talking about. Last Sept. I was visiting a friend in St. Louis, MO. I had lugged some of my stuff with me, but as you know we always need something to finish a project. She took me to their Archivers. I was also very impressed. We hit it on a day they were doing a make-n-take. And my friend says that she get’s ad’s for free papers. I don’t have an Archivers in Tucson AZ, but wish I did. Some people have all the luck. I am on my way to Columbus,OH next month and am happy to see there is an Archivers there. Would love a RAK! Sandi #4159

As I’ve posted about previously, my area has lost two LSS and one of them was Recolections. It was a chain and I can imagine that it is similar, except that Archivers is probably larger.
We miss is SO, SO, SO much. A group of roughly 350 of us communicate on a yahoo group and many of us have e-mailed Archivers to beg them to come to our area. We hope that they are listening. Although my state has one, it is about 5-6 hours away so that doesn’t help much.
I’m glad that you were able to experience shopping there. The picture makes me want to go in and look at all of those yummy scrappy products.

I adore our Archivers, but it’s pretty exceptional with really wonderful employees who remember who you are, what you like, etc. I try to go there to crop or take a class at least once a week, ideally all day Friday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. No kidding! Since we don’t have a local scrapbook store in Raleigh or Cary, I’m in love with Archivers. It’s so pretty, so neat, not too bright, not too dark, great big open all the time work rooms, more stuff than you’ve ever imagined in one store. Oh yeah, and they have great exclusives too. I just picked up their exclusive summer Prima flower jar. Too cool.
The photo policy must just be for the one in the Mall of America, since the photo that used to be my Avitar was taken there. And I take pics all the time in the crop room when my friends are there. Bizarre! I wonder why they won’t allow pics.
Anyway, I think of Archivers as scrapbooker’s Disney World. It’s big, it’s gorgeous, the service is great, you can’t wait to go back when you leave, and yeah, it’s a big corporate moneymaker, but it’s a good big corporate moneymaker. I would feel more guilty if we had other scrapbook stores, but I love Archivers in Raleigh unabashedly!

I’ve never had the Archivers experience, and have always been a little bit curious too. You always hear people talk about them, so it’s easy for feel left out… kind of like hobby lobby for us west coasters.

Thanks for sharing this. I will have to look up the store locations to see if I will be near one at some point this summer. :]

I too live in a state without Archivers but, every time I head to Colorado to see my sister I take time out to visit the 3 that are in the Denver area. I absolutely adore Archivers and the minute I get home I start a savings fund for the next trip there…lol. The only problem is that I do not get to Denver as much as I would like so I usually order from an online Scrapbook store or buy from the LSS that is 60 miles from me. She has a few lines that I really like but she doesn’t carry a lot of the Fiskars products.
Thanks May,for an opportunity to win a RAK.

Interesting comments, May! I’ve never been to one, but I’ve seen them advertised. They always struck me as a bit more of a ‘library/curator’ type of place than family archiving — I sort of envisioned acid-free government-issue file boxes and stuff for preserving documents if you were shuffling them off to a musty attic for a hundred years or so, rather than a place you would go to preserve family memories if you wanted to display and use them. Obviously, I’m a bit too literal in my understanding of the term “Archivers.”

If I end up near one, I’ll definitely check it out!
