Angela Daniels: crafting with candy

This year for National Scrapbooking Day, I am attending an all day crop with some of my favorite scrapbooking friends at our local scrapbook store. To help start the day off on a fun note (and to help keep their energy up), I’m bringing each of my friends their favorite candy treat. If you’re planning on bringing a treat to one of your friends (to a crop or just because), you can easily follow my lead. All you need is the wrapper off the candy to use as a template, a few of your favorite scraps and one or two of your favorite Fiskars tools.
To make the wrapper for the candy bar and gum shown here, I simply removed the candy’s wrapper and used it as a template to cut my favorite Heidi Grace scraps to size. Once I had my scraps cut, I used my favorite border punch (“Lace Border Punch”) to add a lacy border to the sides of the new candy wrappers. Using more scraps, I used a medium and extra large squeeze punch (“That’s Amore”) to embellish my candy bar. I even added a little Cloud 9 ribbon (appropriately named “Chocolate Chalet”) to add a little extra flair to the candy necklace I will be wearing to the crop.
Once you start looking at packaging as templates, there is no end to the fun, inexpensive and personalized gifts you can make for your friends. These quick projects also make easy make & takes if you are throwing a party. Why not have your guests make their own party favors? And I can’t think of a better combination of my two favorite things- candy and scrapbooking! Happy National Scrapbooking Day, everyone!
May has some of that orange trident, rainbow twizzlers, and a squeeze punch to RAK to one lucky fiskateer. Leave a comment here to be entered, and winner will be notified via e-mail…
