a good project-

DSC00019.JPG I took these stacks of photos, and sorted them “by layout”. I’d say about 300 pics or so. Not that many really, and not more than an hours work. The ones I didn’t think I’d use for layouts? In the photo box. The ones that I think I will? Into a ‘holding tank’ where I can flip through and pull ones I’m ready for.

This is a GREAT thing to do before going to a crop. Spend 20 minutes - an hour and sort the photos you’re thinking about bringing. Leave the ones that have 30% chance or less of making it onto a page. You’ll lighten the load, and make time at the crop that much easier.

I will be back for 1 more post this weekend, until then- happy crafting!

I wish I could do that, I organize everything in my life, but I cannot get myself to organize my pictures. It’s terrible!! I have boxes everywhere, and I just dig until I find a pic I want to scrap. WTG to you! :)

I have been working on that also. I do think I’m making head ways-just got to keep after it. Glad to know I’m not alone. Keep working!!!!

How that projects looks to overhelming to me!! I am an organizational freak. I have envelopes for all my photos. They are organized by type of photo. One for friends, family and my immediate family. I also have my childrens scrapbooks organized by topic: For example; birthdays, holidays, vacations, my sister & I, my brother & I, flying, camping, sports, etc. I have envelopes for each catergories and the photos get filed in the approraite folder in chronological order. Have fun getting your photos organized!!!

I put pictures with the paper I think I will use, even the mights, together in a page protector. I take all the page protectors and put them in my “briefcase” of a carrier.

Great idea May! TFS :) I usually end up doing this at the crop and waste an hour or so.

  6. Kimberley #2626 says:

Good idea, May. I have learned that I work so slowly on my pages, I never get more than two or three layouts done, anyway. I do better if I limit my choices in what I bring so I don’t spend half my time choosing what to work on — ’cause that’s what I end up doing! :D

That’s what I am trying to do, not only with my photos, but with my supplies as I get ready to move.
    It’s not an easy task.

I have to sort my pictures. I use 2 creative memories power sort boxes and sort pictures until I have enough for 90 one page layout. I have discovered that if my pictures aren’t sorted, then I can’t scrap. I am sure it is a mental block thing. If I have extra time, I will crop the pictures and find paper and embellishments for them. I love it when I get that done, because I don’t have to take near as much stuff with me when I go to a crop.

I always seem to wait until the last minute to pack my scrap bag, which makes me take more than I should. Planning ahead, like you, is the best choice :-)

  10. Danielle says:

great idea I try to keep my photos sorted but it is hard to do! especially when I go out to a crop I sit down and sort what photos I need or will maybe use. Thanks for the tip!

just a tip for everyone but I by cheap (acid0-free) photo ablums and then stick them in chonilogically until I get a chance to scrap them. It really helps me stay organized and allows me to easily pull out the ones that I want to scrap and it takes only a little effort to keep up with it!!

thanks for the awesome tip! easing the stress for a crop

I do this too. I still take too much to a crop, but it is easier to get something done right away and that feels so good.

  14. Trish #2702 says:

I too put the pictures with the paper I think I’ll use together for the crop. But I have to say, because I’m proud of myself, that I finally went through all the rejects last weekend and organized them by category into photo boxes. They were good enough to print so I want to keep them, just not in the scrapbook. It was 12 years worth of photos. I am so happy they are organized. I enjoyed doing it too.

    Great idea. TFS

  16. Debbie Buckland says:

    Thanks for the tip.
    More time for layouts.

  18. Michele L. says:

I find that when I can preplan for a crop with my photos, I get so much more done…good advice, May.

  19. Jessica says:

thanks may! i caught myself the last crop i went to, i never get many pages done, i dont need that many pics!!!

  20. Angela Daiels (spidergirl) says:

I just want to comment that I see those Stephanie Plum novels. I am weak and couldn’t help but read #9 because it was sitting here. LOL!

  21. Rita Shimniok says:

Definitely the way to attend a crop - pre planning makes for a productive crop…unless you end up walking around and visiting everyone. (LOL) Enjoy!

  22. Veronica says:

I wish I was half that well organized when it came to prepping for crops. I’m lucky if I can decide on two or three projects to work on. :) Hence I always bring waaaaaay more stuff than is reasonable. It’s a little embarassing.

  23. Tracy # 4168 says:

Wow May, that’s alot of photos!!! I went through my pictures and I worked out that I have about 200 layouts to do!!! AARRGGGHHHH best just get scrapping LOL!!!

  24. Amyre says:

Love the idea May! I have to do something with all the photos on my computer too! It is moving super slow now because I have over 7000 in it.

  25. connie #2909 says:

What a great idea May! I have a 3 day crop coming up in July and this is a great tip! Thanks for sharing.

  26. Kimberley #2626 says:

If I didn’t have so many photos already printed from my BD days (Before Digital), I would seriously consider just bringing a few pictures on disk with me to the LSS and printing only those I want to scrap that night. That would *really* narrow my choices and I think I’d get a lot more done!
