Michele Light: chipboard mini book

cm.JPGMy name is Michele and I am Fiskateer #1867. When May announced that I was going to be a “guest blogger” for the site, I was ecstatic, to say the least. I love the inspiration I get from my daily dose of Fiskateers, and I hope my project gives some inspiration to others. I am a fulltime elementary enrichment teacher and enjoy my “me” nights when I can scrapbook at my local scrapbook store in Hershey, PA (www.hersheyscrapbook.com)  or just by myself in the corner of the basement. I have now taken over what was once two small storage areas. The joke in our family is that the space is now referred to as Studio 109. Sounds impressive, right? When not taking care of my three favorite men (my husband, and two teenage sons), I am either scrapbooking, stamping, painting, knitting, reading, or watching some type of reality television show. I hate to admit it, but I have become a reality TV junkie! When in a “rut” and the scrapbooking mojo is just not working, turn to a sketch or an advertisement. Use either one of them for inspiration. If that doesn’t work, the Fiskateer gallery is always rocking with ideas.

I also love the products and tools made by Fiskars. When my assignment was to highlight a project that features a favorite tool by Fiskars, I had to think long and hard about it. I have so many favorites, from the few squeeze punches I own, my stamp press and Heidi Grace stamps, my staple Fiskars trimmer to the circle cutter. So, because I am just loving my circle cutter and find myself using it on almost everything lately, I decided to create a mini book (another weakness of mine) using my circle cutter, and handy dandy Fiskars trimmer.

The mini book is made of chipboard. I actually was able to cut the chipboard with my Fiskars circle cutter at 8”. I just love this size as it allows me some space to showcase not only the photo but the beautiful pattern paper too. I then cut my cardstock with the circle cutter and adhered it to the chipboard. All edges were then sanded and then distressed with ink (another weakness of mine). Pattern paper was added to each of the pages. I then added photos from our family vacation last summer to Yellowstone and the Tetons National Parks. Finally, I decided to keep the embellishments to a minimum so as to not take away from the photos. I then assembled the mini album with a binder ring. I am just not sure if I want to add ribbon to the ring.

Love the mini-book. I actually do more mini books than I do regular layouts. They make fabulous gifts, are quick and easy and an excellent way to scrap an ‘event’.

Thanks for sharing this little gem.

Hi Michele, thanks for sharing your wonderful mini album with us, I think 8″ would be the perfect size - as you say big enough for the photo and journalling. PS I am also a reality TV junkie.
