2008 in a word

I have been struggling with a word for 2008.  A word to capture what I want in the upcoming year.  A word to symbolize what is important, where I want to go, and what I need in 2008.  Several words made the shortlist…

  1. Gratefulness
  2. Thankfulness
  3. Spontaneity
  4. Creativity
  5. Expansion
  6. Possibilities

None of these words, however, single-handedly encompassed what I want, need, and crave for 2008…  Change.

Change is the word for 2008.

We all fear it, struggle with it, wrestle with it, and fight it.  This year, however, I welcome it with open arms and embrace it - truly…  I crave it!  Life is too short to be stuck in a rut, living in the norm, and not taking risks.

This year, I turn 32.  I keep asking myself… Is this where I saw myself at 32?  Is this the life I expected to have at 32?  And, in some areas, the answer is yes - I dreamed of a family, of a career, of a home.  In other areas, the answer is no and in those areas, it is time to embrace change and try to create the life that I have dreamed about.

I did this canvas as a place to start writing down what I want to change - a year’s work in progress…

I also can summarize last year in a “word” I don’t think this year will be any better. I think the most obvious one for me will be difference! It’s going to be a “different” year for me looking to go back to work full time (temporarily) as well as how can I make a difference in the world around me!

  6. Rachel Greig says:

What a great post Stephenie! I too am looking forward to some change for this year - and it would have almost been my word. But I think my word for 2008 will be ‘grow’.
    Happy New Year!!

My word for 2008 is BALANCE. I struggled so much with time management last year, and need to get a handle on it in 2008. Life seems to be speeding up, not slowing down for us, and I need to figure out a way that I can do what I need and want to do in a way that doesn’t wear me to a frazzle.

  18. Paula says:

Hmmm I’m drawn between “balance” and “organistation” - I think “balance” :)

  19. melita says:

Great word Stephenie! My word last year was “focus” and I still might keep it. After all, why can’t we have the same word 2 years in a row? =)
