Christmas Wrap Up

I hope you all had a blessed Christmas. I have been a little ‘under the weather’ but I thought I’d share a little about mine. I enjoyed family time. My husband’s parents were visiting from Minnesota so we had lots of family around. That’s always a blessing. Abby enjoyed having both sets of her grandparents during the holidays.
Celebrating the true meaning of Christmas is something that our family holds dear and foremost. We always read the Christmas story. We also attend church and this year my husband Rodney was recruited as ‘the voice’ . . . to narrate for a Christmas church musical. He did super. As well, Abigail sang with two other gals and even sang a solo part. She did great!!! It was wonderful to see the joy on both of their faces as they participated and shared the love of the season.
Gifts aren’t at the top of our list but of course they are fun! Like my uncle said, “There are some big gifts, some small but all are from the heart!” Well, as I’ve shared Abby has a birthday around Christmas (Dec. 21st). We had a great party and it was another occasion we could get together as family. We met at Chuck E. Cheese and then some of Abby’s friends stayed over for a slumber party. We decorated Christmas cookies, mugs, watched movies, ate popcorn and had a blast doing girly things. It was definitely a highlight for Abigail.
Well, one of her birthday gifts was “Spikey” (full name) and nickname “Spike”. He is a Bearded Dragon. Our next door neighbors gave Spikey to Abby. Since we can’t have ‘furry friends’ this was a perfect option. We put him into a Princess gift bag at the last moment and then she opened him up. This was her expression . . . priceless.
I must say, I didn’t think I’d enjoy being a ‘reptile mom’ but ‘Spike’ is very sweet. He’s small right now. He loves to be held. He’s tame and well behaved. He’s very cute and sweet (as reptilians go). This was her reaction when she met ‘Spike’. She had seen his mom and dad next door but now this was her own. He doesn’t eat people or rodents. He simply eats vegies, protein like bits of processed meat and sometimes meal worms. So introducing our newest family member . . . Spike. I actually really love this little guy. He has sat and watched a movie with us, snuggles with you and falls asleep and knows how to hang out with the family.
So I wanted to share. I’ll be scrapping ‘Spike’ here soon. In the meantime I’m getting my new camera hooked up so I can share some ’scrappy projects’ with you. I’m also excited to share what I have in store to hopefully inspire you in the new year. You Fiskateers inspire, encourage and share with me. Thank you for your friendship, love, concern and blessing in 2007.
I’m wishing you a wonderful 2008 filled with blessing. Warmest wishes from this Fisk-a-Family to yours!

December 30th, 2007 at 12:20 amI hope you are feeling 100% soon Cheryl! Thank you for sharing the photos and wonderful recap. We make a birthday cake for Jeses on Christmas Day each year, and my husband reads the Story, and both kids blow out the candle. It is greaet fun while making sure the real reason for the season is taught to our children.
I am really going to keep my eyes and ears open for news about Spike. DS says he is going to spend his birthday money on a white rat. (ewww!) I am a parrot person myself, and a lovebird shares his room - but is only cuddly with me. Have seriously considered the tortoise route after meeting a friend’s turtoise. But the bearded dragon and word “snuggly” has piqued my interest! I cannot wait to learn more about his care, and who/how he will be taken care of when you go on vacations. (can they go days without food like some snakes can?)

December 30th, 2007 at 6:39 pmGreat pics - love the one when Spike came out of the bag!
Our Church did a tour of Bethlehem complete with the holy Family. It was for the families and each got an individual family blessing from the pastor - I was part of this and it was so wonderful to see all the kids go through the tour - such a great way for them to understand the Christmas story!
I hope you are feeling 100% soon - I too was sick over Christmas - I willed myself to be OK for Church and Christmas morning - so I got to see all the wonderful expressions on my DDs face that morning!
Have a Blessed New Year’s Eve and may it continue into 2008!

December 31st, 2007 at 2:21 amHello to Spike! Our sister rescue group rescues lizards (we do mostly rodents, but turtles also) and bearded dragons are the best lizards for homes with children. Unlike iguanas who can be very aggressive and can bite right through your wrist, bearded dragons are far more docile, less dangerous, and are much easier to keep healthy. So congratualtions and best of luck for a long and happy friendship with your new little reptile!
And good for you for researching your pet’s diet and needs before getting him.
