Hey all!
I hope that those of you in the states who had a three day weekend really enjoyed it. We went to my parents house for the weekend, with the final reception for my sister’s wedding Saturday and then just hanging and playing the last few days. For me, going home is always a nice break. As much as I know about, talk about, and love about Chicago, I grew up a small town girl in Princeton, IL, a town of about 7,000 people. There is something to be said about Sundays in a small town. There are times when I am homesick and this weekend I got me a little fix.
Anyway, here’s the deal - I have a nice prize pack to send out. So, post a comment about how you like to spend your laid back weekends and on Wed. I will draw a random winner!
Good luck!

May 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pmLaid back weekend? What’s that? LOL! Right now our weekends are filled with little league baseball games, church and other activities. I think a laid back weekend would just be a weekend where we don’t have anything scheduled, could sleep in late and watch college football on the TV with lots of snacks handy. And no cleaning involved! =)
Sara says:
May 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pmHaha! Sorry, just had to laugh. We rarely seem to have laid-back weekends. It would seem there’s almost always too many things to get done and too many siblings wanting to borrow the car. (between my husband and I, we have 4 siblings within one mile…all of which are college students!) We’d much rather be camping!

May 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pmI LOVE to start my laid back weekends (which I hardly ever get any) sleeping in late. Like noon late. I always have to be up at 6 everyday for work, so I love sleeping in late. I get ready for the day slowly. No rushing. And I don’t like to go anywhere. I like to get online, maybe watch a movie. Scrap a little if the juices are flowing. Get some little things done that I have been meaning to do, like organize files on my computer, or look at something on the web I wanted to do. Those little things that wouldn’t take any time to do, but you are just so busy and it isnt high on your priority list. I like to also eat all my favorite foods. Cook a frozen pizza, eat a popsicle. I just love to be lazy though because I am so busy all the time.

May 28th, 2007 at 9:22 pmWe have a place in the GA mountains. Always so many friends around with great potlucks every weekend. We love to go horseback riding, fishing, or just hanging out and talking. That is what life is all about….family and friends. Gotta love it!

May 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pmWe spent the weekend together as a family. My husband travels a lot for work so it was nice to have him home for the long weekend. Riding bikes, playing baseball, and even camping out in a friends back yard made our Memorial Day weekend special.

May 28th, 2007 at 9:32 pmMy ideal laid back weekends (which are few and far between) are spent laying in the reclining chair in the backyard, no phones, no tv, just no interruptions.
Melissa S says:
May 28th, 2007 at 9:33 pmJust like I spent this weekend. Visited with family, went to the pool, had a cookout, and just generally spent the weekend with no agenda whatsoever. Today we played with our daughter and laughed and giggled a lot.
Jackie says:
May 28th, 2007 at 9:34 pmI’m glad you had a relaxing weekend! How I LIKE to spend my laid back weekends is either shopping or stamping, but hubby usually has other ideas, like yard work!
Barbara says:
May 28th, 2007 at 9:34 pmWhen we were little we would take Sunday Drives with no real destination in mind. I grew up in such a beautiful area, we’d drive up through the mountains or on old scenic highways. Any time there was a historical marker we’d stop and read it. My dad was a bit of a history buff so he’d add interesting details as we went along.
I still love taking a relaxing drive every now and again to discover new things in the area that we weren’t aware of before.
Melissa says:
May 28th, 2007 at 9:40 pmWell lately we’ve spent our weekend working on our yard and flower beds but we also like to make a big bowl of popcorn and watch DVD’s.

May 28th, 2007 at 9:41 pmlaid back weekends…well, we lead a busy and crazy life, just like most others. So, we try to get away to our cabin and enjoy quality family time together…hiking, canoeing, hanging out on the deck, spotting for bear and making smores and rootbeer floats. I LOVE our weekends together!

May 28th, 2007 at 9:51 pmOur May long weekend was last week, but I still had a laid back weekend this past one!!! LOL
Yesterday, we went for a day outing to an Eco Centre that I’d been wanting to see for while….today I made fabric postcards!!!
Hope YOUR holiday was a good one!!!

May 28th, 2007 at 10:20 pmLaid back weekends? What are those? It’s a rare thing for me to get two days off in a row. But when I do, I usually head to Hershey PA for a day. Nothing like a day full of chocolate including a day at the Chocolate Spa!

May 28th, 2007 at 10:20 pmI would like to spend the weekend working on my travel album from our 2 week trip to Europe however, I will be heading to Kansas on the motorcyle to the “Oz Ralley” with my dh. Hopefully it will be pretty riding weather!

May 28th, 2007 at 10:34 pmHonestly, my favorite thing to do on lazy weekends is just to hang out with my son. He is 2, and loves to be read to. Sometimes we sit for hours in the hammock or on the couch just looking at books.
nadine says:
May 28th, 2007 at 10:36 pmi like to hang around home doing nothing special - just doing whatever i want to get done and relaxing. normally on the weekend i’m trying to get everything done so that i won’t have to do it during the week, but i like taking that extra day in a long weekend to enjoy the things i like to do.
Maricar says:
May 28th, 2007 at 10:54 pmScrapping, of course! It’s the best way to spend leisure time. Well, OK, also going to the park with the kids.

I had a very laid back weekend: a parade, a cookout, a walk to the park, watched some baseball, it was perfect.
Happy Memorial Day!

May 28th, 2007 at 11:45 pmAfter having family visiting for the last two weekends we decided to stay home and get a few things done around the house and maybe play a little. We did get a few things done. But I mostly tried to make my baby boy happier. He is currently getting 4 teeth and 2 molars. Sore mouth! It was still a pretty good weekend.
Colette McKenzie says:
May 28th, 2007 at 11:47 pmI love my laid back weekends to be responsibility free as much as possible. I love to be outdoors, reading and watching the kids play. No schedules!

May 29th, 2007 at 12:01 amSo many things that I like to do it is hard to pick….hmmm….going to the little beach at George Washington’s birthplace and looking for sharks teeth; going on a road trip to a stamp convention with a girlfriend; or spending time at home with my husband and son doing nothing except being together (catching up on my reading or scrapbooking) or going to a movie with them. It is all fun and relaxing. But I guess I enjoy hunting for shark’s teeth most and of course I have to take pics to scrapbook later.
Brenda says:
May 29th, 2007 at 12:07 amI had a long weekend this week too. From Saturday till Tuesday. I was on the road all day. Came back to my sisters in Alberta. Was in Manitoba for 10 days and miss most of the crop.
Amy says:
May 29th, 2007 at 12:07 amThe way I like to spend my laid back weekends is sneaking out of the house and having some time to myself. I have two young boys and time to myself is the best. Even the simple things like sitting in the car on my own and listening to radio is great. Solitude is the best thing sometimes and it helps to renew the spirit. Of course, I like to scrapbook too, but just having time to myself is a treat.
Jenna says:

May 29th, 2007 at 12:31 amMy partner in crime and I live about two hours apart. We meet up to go to a spa that’s at the midpoint. We hit the local produce market down the street from the spa to load up on yummy treats like fresh baked french bread, deli meats and cheeses and some of the freshest fruit ever picked. Then we lounge in the picnic area, having our brunch, sipping a nice little Gewurztraminer before a lavish day of lounging at the spa to rejuvenate our mind and body for a few more months. Good food, good company and no worries. Ahhh, laid back.
Kay Brown says:
May 29th, 2007 at 1:02 amMy family all lives very close, so there is no going home, because we are home! But I love to stay home, scrapbook, watch a little tv and see my grandbabies! We don’t get to take a trip anywhere on weekends bacause my husband is a pastor, but that is okay. Home is wonderful!

May 29th, 2007 at 2:06 amI live in a town that has a population of 2000!!! There of course is the surrounding areas. So, I totally understand what you are saying! I was thinking earlier that today was the first day in…. years it seems that we absolutely did NOTHING! I mean with no where to go, not even a run to the local grocery store. It was so nice. It felt like such a fun, goofy family time of chasing each other and hiding playing some games together. I totally cherish today. (and I got a bit of scrappin and bingo in during nap time!)

May 29th, 2007 at 2:18 amWell, I’m Canadian, but last weekend, prior to the American Memorial Day weekend, we had our “Victoria Day” long weekend.
It was wonderful. I actually had a four day weekend since I took the Friday off work. I hung out with my kids, did a bit of gardening, went to bed early every night and slept in every morning.
It made me want to be at home again. I work full time and love my job, but sure do miss those days at home with my boys : (
Happy American Memorial Day to all!

May 29th, 2007 at 2:44 amLazy weekend to me is staying home with my family, having a latte and getting some bagels, reading the newpaper. Scrapping. Sometimes we will take a drive out to Malibu just to see the sunset and back home.. Just enjoying each others company.

May 29th, 2007 at 3:38 amSounds like a great weekend Stephenie - I like small towns too
We like to relax up at our caravan by the lake whenever we can on weekends. It’s so beautiful sitting outside smelling the bush and listening to the birds. Quite often we’ll see a few kangaroos hanging around as well
Veronica Noechel says:
May 29th, 2007 at 4:03 amWell, this weekend wasn’t laid back (We went to Animazement–an Anime convention for geeks like us!–and managed to run a fund raiser/outreach table for the animal rescue too. Fun, but SO exhausting!) but, on laid back weekends, I like to cook breakfast with Scott, then we watch a movie or maybe some anime, or some re-runs, then nap, then go out for coffee and play a game, like Spite and Malice (my grandmother taught us how to play the night before our wedding), things like that. Maybe we’d take the dogs to the park and Scott would make Pizza Sunday night.
Wow. This is making me need a lazy weekend badly! Good thing there’s nothing planned for next weekend so far! (well, nothing big. There’s a hamster I’m pet sitting, but that’s pretty easy.)
Erica says:
May 29th, 2007 at 5:30 amSounds like you had a lovely weekend Stephanie, I cannot remember the last time I had a lazy weekend, unfortunately I work night duty every weekend and my DH works all week long, so 7 days a week one of us is at work, which sure does make it difficult. So when the odd weekend comes along, we love to recharge our batteries camping usually heading down to Wilsons Promontory one of the loveliest places on earth
If we can’t do that, then a short drive from home finds us in the bush - we love hiking, bushwalking and any family time together. Of course if the weather is bad there is nothing like curling up with a book or doing some scrapping
Sandy "aspromised" says:
May 29th, 2007 at 5:55 amI love to chill out on the back patio - It is covered in case of rain, has a table big enough to scrap on and we have a little radio for background music.
Sandra Mason says:
May 29th, 2007 at 6:03 amWe enjoy spending time otherwise at home watching DVD’s and eating popcorn (If it is wet and miserable) or if we are lucky to have a sunny day (We are nearly into winter here in New Zealand) we enjoy taking the kids to the park, going for bush walks or heading off to the beach
Cristin says:
May 29th, 2007 at 6:20 amBeing a working mom I try to spend as much time I can with my girls on the weekend. Dh works Saturdays so the girls and I usually head to the playground for a while and then spend some time shopping and have lunch together. Our Sundays are usually spend either on a mini road trip or a visit to our local Wildlife park.
Sarah says:
May 29th, 2007 at 7:20 amMy 3 day weekend was spent with picnic at my parents and my house. Also the local Memorial Day Parade!!
Cherie says:
May 29th, 2007 at 7:56 amHang out by the pool, nap on the swing, read a good book, cook out & make fruit smoothies =)
Linda says:
May 29th, 2007 at 7:59 amI don’t get many laid back weekends - I am a cashier at Wal Mart on the weekends, and it is usually INSANE at our store. Our town has several campgrounds, and we get tourists in a steady stream from about mid-May until the first snow. They roll in starting about Thursday night, and my store is the only game in town so we are jumping! On the rare weekends that I have off, our family time is usually spent visiting grandparents, doing chores around the house, or chilling out with a good book or a movie. With me gone so much, *any* thing we do together is great! And when the kiddos are happy and doing their own thing, I can slip off to the scrappy room for a little “me” time!
Meghan R says:
May 29th, 2007 at 8:05 amI like to spend my laid back weekends at HOME with my hubby and my doggy. I love when we can spend time together, but doing our own thing. It’s always a nice break.
Lisa says:
May 29th, 2007 at 8:17 amLaid back weekends? Has to be a long lie-in, out for breakfast, strolling around a bit hand in hand, dinner with friends, cozying up on the sofa with a movie, time for scrapping if poss and yes, I agree, ice cream is good whenever!

May 29th, 2007 at 8:18 amI got to spend Saturday with a friend online that I helped make 1000 cranes for, and then chilled out with family Saturday evening. Sunday was spent packing for our move, and Monday I worked. Not extremely relaxing, but had a good weekend.

May 29th, 2007 at 9:17 amI had an awesome weekend. My daughter and grandson and best friend came in from Texas. We had my daughters baby shower while she was here. We had a great turn out. I was totally wasted by the time they left. Not drunk wasted tired wasted haha. I was so glad to see them though. My grandson took his first steps at my house this weekend. I missed it and it just killed me. On Monday i just cleaned up a little and rested… Hope everyone else had a great weekend too…..

May 29th, 2007 at 9:45 amSince my son is now 21 and spends most if not all his weekends either working (Sat) or hanging out with his friends, all my weekends tend to be laid back. (I also have a lot of health problems since my 2003 car accident that don’t allow me to do much anymore.)
I like to start my laid back weekend by going to yard sales on Saturday morning. Usually the rest of the day & Sunday is spent reading, scrapping and watching tv. (I like to watch tv when I scrap anyways).
Lynda says:
May 29th, 2007 at 9:57 amWe go to the local kiddie amusement park at least once a weekend once the weather turns warmer. We pack a picnic and play on the grass as a break from all the fun for the kids. There is nothing better than the kid laughter to relax you after a long week at work.

May 29th, 2007 at 10:02 amI too, like “going home” whenever I get a chance. I grew up out in the country just outside a very small town. My DH and I have lived in smallish towns most of our married life, but not as small as the one I grew up in. Of course, my hometown has grown and even the area around my mom’s isn’t as open and rural as it was growing up, but it is still relaxing to go back ‘home’ and hang out where you can’t see the neighbors house because of the trees and you wake up to birds singing in the trees and ducks quacking on the pond.
This weekend we made homemade ice cream at mom’s and that is always treat.
Lynne says:
May 29th, 2007 at 10:08 amMy favorite way to spend a laid back weekend would be in a quiet house with a really good book.
That hardly ever happens anymore though!

May 29th, 2007 at 10:08 ama laid back weekend would include someone else doing the laundry, cooking, & cleaning!!! LOL!!! I feel like most of my weekends are laid back - with older kids, everyone is coming & going.I try to get in scrapping whenever possible - usually in between cooking & laundry!!!

May 29th, 2007 at 10:14 amI love to do a little shopping attend church then spend the rest of the weekend sitting in the back yard watching the kids play. Late night scrapping after the kids are in bed is always fun.

May 29th, 2007 at 10:22 amhmm…laid back weekends? haven’t had one of those in awhile! for us, that translates into nothing being scheduled on our calendar! i don’t think that is happening until sometime in july.
for that weekend, i would like to get up whenever, not feel the pressure to get things cleaned by a certain time, and pick an activity or not…and just enjoy being altogether! play, read, and nap together!

May 29th, 2007 at 11:00 amI didn’t have a laid back weekend. The closest I come is relaxing on a chaise lounge for an hour before the guilt sets in and forces me to get back to my chores!
This weekend I constructed a shed, so I could move all the holiday decorations I have into the shed from the garage and turn the garage into a craft storage room- that’s right… my scrapbooking supplies have overtaken the house!! LOL Its long overdue. My garage has needed a make over for awhile!
Jan says:
May 29th, 2007 at 11:02 amI love to get up early - 5:00 early - and drink coffee on the deck watching the sun come up. Time with family and friends. Watch good movies. Eat good food.

May 29th, 2007 at 11:15 amMy idea of a relaxing weekend is doing as little as possible. Sleep in, -for me that means until about 8.30, have someone else cook (yeah, right!!!) and just hang out with my family. A walk in the woods to “vacuum my brain” is also important. And if everyone is healthy at the same time too, now that’s groovy!
Hisaho says:
May 29th, 2007 at 11:24 amA laid back weekend would have to mean no meal planning for me. Even when we seem to have a “free” day, it seems like I can’t relax because we always need to think about the next meal. I like it better when we are out of town seeing some sights, and it’s understood that we’re eating out, then when we get back to the hotel we can just lie in bed and watch TV or read.

May 29th, 2007 at 11:38 amMy best weekends are spent with my babies… my miniature donkeys. I love spending time out with them, brushing, and talking to them. I really thought this memorial day weekend was going to be a great exciting weekend… I have a baby due! But momma decided to not have her yet. So I still am waiting, and petting her tummy talking to the baby! I know sounds dorky, but I can’t help it am excited about this little one coming.. they are just adorable! About 20 inches tall and like a bundle of fuzzy cotton! My BIL calls them my expensive stuffed animals. Anyway that is a great weekend to me!

May 29th, 2007 at 1:06 pmThe most laid back, wonderful weekend are those when it’s just me, musband, and our dog. We read a little, watch a little tv, walk a little, and eat something yummy. Just relaxing together, with no plans at all.
Second best is when we get my mom and the 4 of us head down to the inlaws where we just hang out, eat, and play boardgames.

May 29th, 2007 at 6:06 pmMy laid back weekends are spent by not planning anything….
Doing inpromptu things like feeding ducks, going to the beach (yes even on winter sunny days), bbq’s and the such
Sundays - We go to church and after that spend 3 hours infront of the TV watching Star Trek, New Generation and Deep space 9.
Maybe do a little scrapbooking when the kids are in bed at night.

May 29th, 2007 at 6:07 pmFor me, a laid back weekend would be having friends over for a bbq and fun. We don’t spend nearly enough time just hanging out with friends, and enjoying their company.

May 29th, 2007 at 6:15 pmThe week is usually so busy that on a long weekend I really enjoy spending time with my family doing not much of anything! This weekend was actually kind of crazy for us - our oldest daugther graduated high school! What great pictures I have to scrapbook!

May 29th, 2007 at 9:06 pmWell…I don’t get many “laid back” weekends, as I have 4 kids (all 6 and under!) But for a nice break, we like to take our holiday trailer out to a lake, and spend the weekend camping and having some nice quality family time. It’s not very relaxing, but we all enjoy it!
Now a relaxing weekend for me would be one spent anywhere away from the little ones in the house- a hot meal, a hot cup of coffee, and no one calling out “MOM!”

May 29th, 2007 at 9:44 pmLaid back weekends….
I go and visit my granny.
I clean the house and do the laundry. Laid back? Yes, I enjoy cleaning.
I usually am in my pajamas the whole weekend if I don’t have to go anywhere.
We go to the lake now that the weather has warmed up and I love taking pictures of all the rivers, lakes and hills here.
Then I spend sometime time scrapping and ordering photos online and hitting the craft stores and flea markets and yard sales.
I’m on the hunt for vintage finds to use in my LO’s. I love treasure hunts.
Then we grill and hang out and watch the kids on the slip and slide…

May 29th, 2007 at 10:21 pmBecause of an interesting twist of fate, most of our weekends are very laid back. My youngest child is autistic, so we keep our weekends calm and low-key. At first, it drove me nuts! But now I crave these weekends. We BBQ, watch movies, take walks and I get to scrap (that’s the best part!)

May 30th, 2007 at 12:06 amIn my dream world, I would love to sleep in and lounge in bed in my PJs while watching cooking shows!
But Sundays are my laid bad weekend day (since I work weekends doing my Passion Parties). I take my 18 month old to the park and we meet dad for lunch. After she goes down for her nap, I get to read craft magazines in the bookstore!

May 30th, 2007 at 12:17 amI grew up in a town of little over 500. We would always go for walks or head to the park. Other times we would just sit out on the porch and talk with the neighbors as they would come past the house.
Now, DH and I like to just take it easy. When we have a weekend off together, one of us will go and get donuts from our favorite donut shop and a newspaper. We will take time to read the paper and eat a couple of donuts. Other times we will lay in the bed and I will read and he will be on the computer

May 30th, 2007 at 8:34 amI love to spend a laid back weekend kicking back at the beach. The kids aren’t hungry very often & they don’t fight at all. The sound of the waves & the seagulls & the smell of the seawater just take all my troubles away. Four hours feels like a half hour - time just stands still.

May 30th, 2007 at 10:27 amHope I’m not too late to get in on this!
With a 4-year-old in the house, I don’t normally get laid back weekends, but long weekends with him and his daddy are a real treat. Our favorite thing this time of year on a long weekend is to spend lots of time at the park, have a picnic, walk by the river looking for wildlife (usually just snakes which my son loves), and just spending time together as a family, not having to worry about getting the laundry done before work on Monday or setting the alarm.
