My trip, part one…

I have so much to tell you all about my recent Fiskateers trip up the east coast to New Jersey and New York it’s going to take me a couple of posts to get it all in.

It was a great trip, my mother and I spent about 35 hours on the road, I visited with lots of wonderful Fiskateers and I ate a lot of great food; I think that is where I will start, with a subject that is near and dear to my heart- food!

Mom and I jokingly called our trip the ‘Fiskateers Food Tour’ -it all started when we stopped for the night in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  I was very excited to visit Hershey Chocolate World, something I haven’t done since I was a kid.  We took a ride and saw how Hershey Chocolate is made and ate dinner at the KitKat Cafe.   There were also candy stands and bakeries all over the place.  I had a huge 2 pound chocolate bar personalized for my boyfriend and got the best sugar cookies I have ever had in my life.  Oh, and the chocolate milkshakes were soooooo good!

The next day we got up and headed for Clifton, NJ to do an event at Stampingly Yours.  We arrived a little early and spent our free time on Market Street visiting the wonderful bakeries and chocolate shops.

The best part about Market Street was Angelo’s- a real, authentic Italian eatery.  It was recommended by the ladies at Stampingly Yours and it was some of the best food I have ever had!  In fact it was so good that we ate lunch and dinner there.

IMG_0873.jpg  This is the sweet guy at Angleo’s (I call him ‘Little Angelo’) that was such a good sport when I was taking a million pictures and asking him questions about everything on the menu.

From there we were on to New York where I encountered the best doughnuts I have had in my entire life.  In downtown East Syracuse there is a little Greek doughnut shop called Serres.  I ate doughnuts for three days straight, I felt so guitly about it, I ate salads for lunch and dinner.

IMG_0946.jpg  It was at Serres that the funniest thing happened. Mom and I were stopped there on our way out of Syracuse to head home to South Carloina.  She parked and I ran in for our last fix.  There was a nice old man in line in front of me that turned around and told me ‘good morning’ I smiled and returned the greeting and he turned around to place his order, after he did that he paused for a second and turned back around to continue talking to me. He said, ‘Don’t you look pretty this morning.’ I smiled and told him thank you (and thought to myself I hope he isn’t driving home, because he obviously can’t see very well) and he turned back around to get his doughnuts.  Then he paused and turned back to me and said, ‘They say gentlemen prefer blondes, and it really is true.’  I couldn’t help but laugh!  I told him it has worked pretty well for me so far.  They say that people in New York aren’t as friendly as people here in the South, but I don’t think that it’s true, I met some wonderful people along my way and ate some really good food, too.

Hi Holly and Candy. Glad you made it home safely. This trip sounds devine. They would probably kick me out of Weight Watchers after a trip like that. But it sounds totally worth it. Love the pics. Welcome home.

  14. Candy says:

Yes, the streetlamps are shaped like Hersey kisses!

  15. Wendy Jo says:

I visit Hershey at least once a month.

Weight gaining concerns? I recommend the Spa at Hotel Hershey. Only in Hershey are you able to relax and enjoy a cocoa massage or another relaxing chocolate spa service AND enjoy chocolate without a single calorie!

VeeDub - The kisses streetlights are still there and Hershey Park has expanded quite a bit too.

    Hey:

Wow….too much fun. Isn’t it fun to meet all kinds of cool folks on the road….and when the food is good…
    well, that is just tops.

Where are you guys in SC? Is there the greatest scrapbook store in your area? We visit the Greenville area frequently and wouldn’t want to miss out if there is a super store there.

  17. Candy says:

Well, we used to own “The Scrapbook Company” and it was just the Best store! (of course, we thought so…)
We were the very first store in SC to open almost 10 years ago. The Scrapbook Company is still here and has a new owner. The next time you are in Greenville - be sure and check it out.

  18. Sandy says:

WOW how much did you gain on that trip? It sounds WONDERFUL - nothing like chocolate and donuts and Italian is my favorite, and Mexican…. Look forward to the rest of the trip details.

It’s great to “see” you and read of your adventures!!! (PS–just bought my new Fiskars trimmer today and can’t wait for it to arrive and try it out!!)

  21. Vickie says:

Oops… typed my email in incorrectly the first time. ;-)

  22. Vickie says:

Well, shootamonkey…where did my comment go?

Ok, just in case it doesn’t show up, I had previously typed that Megan and I are enjoying your pictures (we just looked you up) and she totally recognized your Mom and “Holly’s mom that always has Tootsie Rolls!” ;-)
