Special Friends

A special gift that came from owning my scrapbook store was the wonderful friends that I made from my customers.  In fact, many times customers became even more than friends, they became family.

Let me tell you about Jim and Chris Woodberry.  On days when we would have special sales, when customers would be in a line out the door waiting to make their purchaces, Chris would bake cookies and bring them and pass them out to the people waiting in line.  One day Chris and Jim were at the mall and she saw a shirt that she thought I just had to have, they bought it and wrapped it up and gave it to me, for no reason at all.

For the past two years they tagged along with us when we went to CHA winter.  They came purely for the pleasure of it; Chris would look at all of the wonderful companies and their products and Jim would happily collect her treasures and carry them around the show like her own personal pack mule. When there was no more room for catalogs, he would make a trip out to the car and drop it all off so he could start the collection all over again.  He wasn’t a crafter, but he loved being there just the same.

My family and I went to their house for dinner, and I would go over just to visit with them from time to time.  The last time I was at their house was for the birth of their newest grandchild.  Jim used to treat me just like I was one of his daughters, he would always ask me about my boyfriend and give me advice. He was a good man and I loved him.

Just a couple of weeks ago when the Fiskateers site went live, he was one of the first people to sign up.  He sent me an e-mail telling me he now knew someone famous- I responded by asking him who, and he replied that it was me.

He passed away today, I will miss him.
